What is ReadPlay?
ReadPlay is the exciting new interactive website for The Benefactory, appealing to children, parents and teachers alike!

What will make ReadPlay a unique site?
ReadPlay offers activities for children, teachers and parents that are fun, educational, and interactive. We'll encourage children to create and write their own true stories, and to download word games and activity pages, which can provide hours of fun for any age. Our online storytelling animatics, with multiple Grammy nominated musician Tom Chapin narrating, plunge families into the world of each animal: children can hardly believe it when they discover each featured animal is real. A new animatic will be available each month.

What is The Benefactory?
The Benefactor is a children's book publisher holding licenses wtih a number of non-profit animal protection groups, including NWF. Each story in our current series, for children ages 7-9, is based on a true story about a real animal, and accompanied by a plush animal and a read-along audiocassette with
narration and music by award-winning musician Tom Chapin. Each storybook in the NWF series, for children ages 5-7, is based on a true story about a creature that hatches from an egg, and is accompanied by a plush egg that inverts into an animal, a celebrity-narrated read-along audiocassette, and an activity booklet.

Why is the company called The Benefactory?
As The Benefactory's name implies, the company gives a percentage of all proceeds to non-profit groups with aligned missions (thus the company is a Benefactor).

What is The Benefactory's mission?
The Benefactory's mission is to produce and distribute top-quality products for children that entertain and educate, and that meet our four main objectives:

To foster animal protection and environmental preservation
To teach literacy and motivate reading
To encourage children to become creative, proactive individuals
To teach core values and augment a child's sense of self-esteem
To encourage community linkages

Where do you get the ideas for the true stories?
The stories come from a variety of places, including National Parks, animal protection agencies like Farm Sanctuary, the news (magazines, television, newspapers, the internet), and sometimes from people like you who call with a great true story.

What makes The Benefactory's stories special?
These stories are true stories about real, living animals, and so they appeal greatly to children, parents, and teachers. We include a photo of the real animal featured in the story on the back cover and glossary page, and children love seeing the real hero of the story. We also tend to emphasize the positive and focus on people who are doing good things to rescue all sorts of animals, or on animals who have done some amazing good deeds themselves! Children find this empowering instead of alarming. We care tremendously about quality, and we are frequently told our products have a unique sincerity about them.
