The subject matter for Hope, about
an injured and abandoned pig, and
for Kirsty’s Surprise, about a small
cow with a big surprise, was provided
by Farm Sanctuary. A percentage of
net profits from these titles are
given to support
Farm Sanctuary. In 1986, Farm Sanctuary
established the first shelters dedicated
to victims of “food animal” production.
Through direct rescue and refuge efforts,
investigative campaigns, legislation,
and public awareness, Farm Sanctuary
works to prevent cruelty and neglect
at factory farms, stockyards, and
slaughterhouses nationwide. For more

The story of Rico’s Hawk, about a
troubled young boy who helps to rehabilitate
a hawk while at Green Chimneys, was
provided by Green Chimneys. A percentage
of net profits from this title is
given to support Green Chimneys. Green
Chimneys is an internationally recognized
program for children with emotional
and learning difficulties.
Here, children heal animals and animals
heal children with the mutual goal
of both returning home. By learning
to care for animals and plants, the
children develop a sense of responsibility
and caring that they may not have
known themselves. The residential
treatment center and special education
school is home to 102 children who
are full-time residents, 35 day students,
350 farm animals and 41 permanently
disabled birds of prey. Green Chimneys’
Farm is open to the public for self-guided
tours 365 days a year. For more information,
